The International Swimming Federation announced today, Monday, the postponement of the year championship, which was to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in the summer of 2021, from May 13 to 29, 2022.
The International Federation stated on its website: "After consultations with Fukuoka City, the Japanese Swimming Federation, organizers, athletes, coaches, technical committees, broadcasting partners and sponsors, the International Swimming Federation is pleased to
announce that the World Championships in Fukuoka (Japan), which were to be held in Summer 2021, will now take place from May 13 to 29, 2022.
Dr. Julio Malioni, President of the International Swimming Federation said: "After contacting the stakeholders concerned and knowing their opinions, we have no doubt that the decision taken will provide the best possible atmosphere for all the participants in the tournament. We look forward to watching the best athletes in the water games in the world compete in Japanese Fukuoka in 2022 ".
He added: "In an unprecedented time of uncertainty, the International Swimming Federation hopes that the announcement of these dates will allow some clarity in planning for all concerned."
In addition, the International Swimming Federation's Masters Tournament of the Year will be held on the Japanese island of Kyushu from May 31 to June 9, 2022.
