Spanish club Atletico Madrid announced today, Tuesday, the termination of the contract with its veteran striker Diego Costa, 32, by mutual consent.
The statement read: "Atletico Madrid and Diego Costa have reached an agreement to terminate the striker's contract, which expires on June 30, 2021. The Spanish Brazilian asked the club to allow him to leave for personal reasons a few days ago and this Tuesday he signed the termination of his contract."
He continued: "Since joining the club in 2006 at the age of only 17 years, the striker has played 215 official matches in two stages, scored 83 goals and 36 assists, and during his time at Atletico Madrid, he won the Spanish League (2013-14) and the Copa del Rey. (2013), the European League (2018) and twice the European Super Cup (2010 and 2018).
"We thank him from the club for his dedication during these years, and we wish him success in the next stage of his professional career," he concluded.
